I’m doing weekly round-ups now, which will include any media I consumed for the past week, from Saturday to Friday Sunday to Saturday (changing days now but this post would cover eight days so I can shift to the new schedule of this post being up on Sundays). I’d be glad if you end up getting some recommendations but I’m only doing this as a form of a media journal (to make it easy to write reviews later on). And fine, an actual journal too. Here goes! I’ve been pretty vocal about my excitement for Manhole and IT’S FINALLY HERE! Manhole premiered yesterday and unsurprisingly, was at the last of the ratings race. I do hope it fares better as the weeks go by as I liked what I saw and I’m excited for all the hijinks. I ended up not being able to follow Reunited Worlds week by week as originally planned so my Wed-Thu kdrama slot is actually free. Would Manhole make the cut? Let’s see!
So I thought of doing weekly round-ups from now on, which will include any media I consumed for the past week, from Saturday to Friday. I also aim to talk about them, especially kdrama episodes I’ve seen for the week, all in one post. I’d be glad if you end up getting some recommendations but I’m only doing this as a form of a media journal (to make it easy to write reviews later on). And fine, an actual journal too. Here goes! So I submitted this to Dramabeans’ call for submissions on the prompt Changing Tastes but it did not make the cut. So I’m posting it here! At first I was a bit sad that it wasn’t posted but after looking through my submission once again, I realized how inferior it was and how scattered. There is even no point and I didn’t answer the prompt in actuality. Hahaha! So now I’m glad that this wasn’t posted because that would have been embarrassing. But I can be embarrassing here on my own blog so I’m still posting it. This is for all the underdog lovers. Hope you enjoy! With each passing day, I get more and more excited with Manhole: Feel So Good, the upcoming drama from KBS set to replace Seven Day Queen on its Wednesday-Thursday timeslot. I went from absolutely zero interest in it to pretty much NEED THIS NOW after I saw their pen-pineapple-apple-pen teaser, which while reveals nothing about the plot, sets the possible tone of the drama. The cast’s willingness to look insane felt such a breath of fresh air, especially that the current dramas this season are serious ones. The poker faces just nail it all the more. I admit to watching this teaser a lot of times and still laughing at it. Check it out below! Continue reading “Manhole: Feel So Good releases The Beatles-esque Poster”→
No rest for the wicked(ly talented) Namgoong Min as he’s on his second headlining drama this 2017 with Falsify, which premiered yesterday and led the race ratings-wise. Despite premiering a week later than its competitors, Falsify got double the ratings. I don’t know if it’s the Namgoong Min magic, as his previous drama Chief Kim was also a hit in Korea, or if the audience just wants to tune in to a drama about journalists fighting off corruption, or this star-studded ensemble cast. Either way, I’m curious to see if Falsify lives up to its ratings. Let’s check it out! Continue reading “Premiere Watch: Falsify (Episodes 1-2 Recap)”→
I first learned about Handsome Devil from this review on Bitch Stole My Remote. I’m a sucker for teen coming-of-age films, may it be with romantic or platonic relationships, straight or queer, just preferably with a dash of self-effacing wit and humor. After reading that review, I definitely wanted to see the film but thought that’s not gonna happen anytime soon as I doubt it’ll ever be shown here in the Philippines. I should have trusted Netflix though! Because as I was browsing this morning, I found this under the newly added section. Hallelujah! I queued it right away as I certainly had an hour and a half to spare. Hope you read on! Continue reading “Film Review: Handsome Devil (2016)”→
That scene was from the third episode where I ended up howling with laughter, as well as my mom, who only went to my room to escape the Wimbledon Men’s Finals (she was getting anxious) but ended up watching a bit of Father is Strange with me. After seeing this scene, she left the room because she didn’t want to be spoiled because she knew she’ll definitely watch this show. What better way to sell Father is Strange than Lee Joon’s chest, right? Hahaha!
After reading raves after raves of Father is Strange on Dramabeans and learning that the recent episodes were such hits in Korea that they’ve been reaching 30%+ in ratings, I knew I really had to start binging this one. As of writing this post, I’ve seen only up until Episode 10, which I’ve practically binged last weekend. I intend on binging this drama on weekends only, not only to keep up with the ~weekend feel~ but because I also love watching it on our TV’s big screen (well, not really big but at least it’s bigger than my laptop) while lounging in bed. So hopefully next week I’ll have a post for you about the episodes I’ll get into.
Anyway, I planned on writing an episode-by-episode mini-recap but with such a big and connected ensemble cast, I found it hard to start writing them. I don’t even know where to start! Everyone is really connected. So I’ll just write about the characters and comment on them and along the way, their background story will be told. Spoilers will be casually thrown in so proceed at your own risk! (But this is a weekend family drama, who are you kidding, nothing is shocking. Spoilers are no big deals.) Maybe it’s me overcompensating with my Wednesday and Thursday freeing up now that Suspicious Partner is over (*mourns forever*) but I can’t help it, both new shows in the Wed-Thu line-up interested me enough to garner checking them out. I posted a recap and my thoughts on the premiere of Reunited Worlds (linked) earlier and now I’m doing the same for Man Who Dies to Live. I already picked up a new show in Reunited Worlds. Will Man Who Dies to Live make the cut? Read on. Continue reading “Premiere Watch: Man Who Dies to Live (Episodes 1-2 Recap)”→
